Wolves Open DAC Play Against Crown Point, Now 4-2 on the Season The Michigan City Wolves boys tennis team opened Duneland Athletic Conference play this afternoon against Crown Point, falling 4-1 to the Bulldogs. While the overall score went in Crown Point’s favor, City battled hard across the lineup and showed that even matches with scores that seemed more commanding than the rallies, there was much competitive play. In varsity action: At No. 1 singles, Riley Emshwiller-Sowards fell 6-1, 6-1, with many games much tighter than the score reflected. Jacob Hazel at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1) and Zach Williams at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0) also pushed their opponents in long rallies and showed solid play despite the final numbers. The standout of the evening came at No. 1 doubles, where Thomas Chatfield and Nic Williams put together an incredible performance. After dropping the first set, the duo regrouped with sharp net play and more consistent plays, roaring back to win 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 in a thrilling third-set tiebreaker. Their resilience and chemistry continue to set the standard as they take their first DAC win of the season. At No. 2 doubles, Eli Green and Jaren Swindell battled against a tough Crown Point team before falling 6-0, 6-0 in a match that featured several great rallies. In junior varsity action: Crown Point swept the contests. Carson Groszek (4-0, 4-0), Joey Stinchcomb (4-0, 4-0), and the doubles team of Aeden Phillips and Trenton Vittatoe (4-0, 4-0) all competed in shortened scoring formats and showed continued improvement. With today’s result, Michigan City moves to 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in DAC play. The Wolves will build on the experience from this match as they continue conference competition.
