Wolves Open Season Against Munster The Michigan City boys tennis team opened their season Wednesday against Munster. The Mustangs came away with a 5-0 win in varsity play, as well as victories in the JV matches, but the night was filled with competitive moments and encouraging signs for the Wolves as they begin their 2025 campaign. At No. 1 singles, Riley Emshwiller-Sowards pushed through a competitive first set before falling 6-3, 6-0. Jacob Hazel battled at No. 2 singles, ultimately dropping a 6-1, 6-2 decision. Carson Groszek gained valuable experience at No. 3 singles in a 6-0, 6-0 match. The most exciting contest and highlight of the evening came at No. 1 doubles, where Thomas Chatfield and Nic Williams came out firing to take the first set 6-4. Munster answered back, though, and edged out the duo in three thrilling sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Their energy, teamwork, and determination set a tone for City and showed plenty of promise moving forward. At No. 2 doubles, Eli Green and Zach Williams fought hard in a 6-1, 6-1 match. In junior varsity action, Munster claimed three singles matches as Aeden Phillips (8-0), Joey Stinchcomb (8-0), and Finn Hendricks (8-0) each competed against tough opponents. Despite the setback, City showed fight and flashes of what they are capable of. With the first match now behind them, the boys are eager to build momentum and keep improving as the season unfolds. Michigan City will return to action on their own home courts this Monday when they host Marquette.
