IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (10/5/26) "Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana" Recently, PGA golfers participated in the President's Cup, which matches the US versus an International team (excluding Europe). The US was heavily favored in the match with great golfers including Scheffler, Thomas, Morikawa, and Young. However, after the first three days, the US trailed the International team, and there was widespread criticism of the lack of chemistry and underperformance by the US team. A few of the US players took offense and voiced their displeasure with the US fans. Was this fair? Should the US players have taken offense to the criticism? Were they being shortsighted and not seeing the big picture? For all sports teams, you celebrate wins as a team and have to regroup and refocus after losses as a team. When you are expected to win--and then lose, you should expect to hear complaints from the fan base. As it turned out, the US came back the last day to win the event. The important thing to remember is that you cannot place blame in those difficult situations when you are under scrutiny. When winning, enjoy the moment and move quickly to preparing for the next competition! All content property of Billy Shepherd Sports
