Girls Swimming & Diving Varsity vs New Prairie High School (43 - 124) Loss Boys Swimming & Diving Varsity vs New Prairie High School (37 - 130) Loss Michigan City hosted New Prairie at home today. Although both the boys and girls teams lost, there were clear signs of progress on both sides, with many swimmers dropping time from their personal bests. A big step forward for the boys team was being able to put together two relay teams, something they were not able to do in their previous meet. Diver Michael Hoppe stepped up in a big way, joining the boys as the fourth swimmer on both the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay. In the 200 yard medley relay, the lineup of Sam Miltenberger (backstroke), Jayce Swindell (breaststroke), Jaren Swindell (butterfly), and Michael Hoppe (freestyle) finished in second place with a time of 1:59.20. Michigan City also had several first-place finishes: In the girls 50 yard freestyle, Emmaleigh Kempf took first place with a time of 28.65, beating New Prairie’s Mikaela Wilson by three tenths of a second. In the boys 100 yard butterfly, Jaren Swindell took first place with a time of 1:01.73. In the boys 100 yard freestyle, freshman Jayce Swindell earned first place with a time of 56.91. In the girls 100 yard backstroke, Batoul Achy took first place with a time of 1:36.15. Our swimmers gave it their all today, and many of them dropped time from their personal bests. Even though the team scores did not go our way, the individual improvements and new relay opportunities are important steps forward for this group. Our next meet will be at Chesterton High School Tuesday, December 9th at 5:30 P.M.
